FAQs
Can you provide receipts for insurance?
Yes. Please check with your insurance or benefits provider to confirm that your package covers Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC). Receipts will be provided after each session when payment is received.
What is the cancellation policy? How do I pay?
I require a 48-hour cancellation notice. Cancellations within 48 hours will be charged half the session fee. Cancellations within 24 hours will be charged the full session fee.
Payments can be made by e-transfer only, at this time.
Do you provide diagnoses?
In British Columbia, Counselling Therapists are not able to provide clinical diagnoses. Some of the avenues you can seek assessments through are Family Physicians, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, or Nurse Practitioners.
What’s the difference between a Counsellor, a Psychologist, and a Psychiatrist?
Counsellors, Psychologists, and Psychiatrists all offer mental health support, but differ in their educational backgrounds, services offered, and areas of expertise.
Counselling Therapists typically have Masters Degrees in Counselling Therapy or Social Work, and focus on providing counselling support through variations on talk-therapy and relational connection.
Psychologists have Ph.D.s in Psychology and are registered with their provincial College of Psychologists. They can provide counselling therapy, as well as clinical assessments and diagnoses, however do not typically prescribe medications.
Psychiatrists are medical doctors (M.D. or D.O) with expertise in understanding the biological and medical aspects of mental health. They must complete medical school and residency training in psychiatry, and obtain certification from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. They typically provide diagnostic assessments, can prescribe medications, help with medication management, and—occasionally—provide psychotherapy.
Do you offer phone sessions?
While many counsellors do great work over the phone I do my best work when I’m able to track the way the session is going with some degree of visual cues and so do not offer phone counselling at this time. The BCACC Therapist directory is very useful for searching credentialed counsellors who offer their service in different ways that can meet your particular needs.
